I don't think I would be able to tell for sure either. But, it has been my experience that the puppies that have coats that look fine and oily all the timee will be silky coats and the big, soft fluffy ones will be cotton. But that's just my expereincee. And, it is possible to have a cotton coat in the litter when both parents are silky and all the rest of the litter looks silky. i've had that happen with my last two litters.
