I've heard both. All depending on your female. My yorkie was in her 2nd heat the first time I bred her. I tried to the first time she went into heat, and they male wouldn't take her. hmmm??? Go figure!! lol

Do what you feel comfortable doing. Being she's little, just really watch her closely around due date. My yorkie is 10 lbs and it went great and was such an experience!! It was awesome!!
