I have double trouble - my girls are 12 weeks old and I have them in a kennel that is part of an x-pen. I allow the girls a larger play area with a piddle pad on one end. During the day they just run to the pad and do their business. I only take them out to play on the kitchen floor when I can watch them constantly! If they act as if they are going to piddle I encourage them to go back into the x-pen and to their pad. At night I make the x-pen only big enough so they step out of their crate to the pad.
I've been doing this for 2 weeks now and I can honestly say we are about 85% trained. When there are accidents I just clean them up with no fuss - I put them in their kennel and clean it up. I don't say a word to them - I don't draw attention to what I'm doing. When they do go to the pad I praise and tell them what smart, wonderful girls they are. They love that.
Just remember it takes time - few dogs get it quickly. Patience, perserverence and persistance.
