I'm so sorry you had to go thru this. At least know that you were able to help her go easily instead of suffering. As far as the vet goes, I'm pretty sure that most vets keep the unclaimed euthanized animals in a cooler of sorts to be picked up weekly or bi-weekly or whatever. So chances are they would still have her there for you to pick up. I'm sure they would understand that you were upset and didn't have a chance to think about it at the time. Years ago I had a puppy that got out of my yard and got hit by a car several blocks away. The person who hit it took it to the vet who then called me. The pup couldn't be saved and was put to sleep. At the time it never occured to me to get his body.
