my vet really encouraged this as well when I got maggie. He said that if you make a big fuss about them having an accident, then making a big ordeal out of the good behaviour doesn't seem so exciting. he said that if you scold them when you find an accident, they are smart and will say "oh, she doesn't like finding it, i'll hide it better next time" which is why they will often go behind a couch, under a table, or near curtains or something. kinda makes sense to me. and i have used that method with maggie and it has really worked wonders!!!!!!!!!! the sweetie pie never has accidents in the house. the only time she ever goes to her crate anymore is if she wakes up early and goes potty and comes in with soaking wet feet. she sleeps with me so if I go back to bed and her feet are wet, she will spend the rest of the night in her crate. other than that, she doesn't go to her crate. ok...i take that back, if we go out to eat or something like that, she goes in her crate. i am blessed and am able to take her to work with me so she typically is not in her crate more than maybe 3 hours a week. but honestly, i do find that the method mentioned above is a great way to do it. just worry about exhaggerating the good moments. they love that and they will aim to please. that is the reaction you want...you want them to want to please you. these little guys will make a huge scene if they think it makes you happy. they live to please their masters. try and concentrate on the praise when she does go potty in the right place. and take her out as often as you can.
