I would suggest definitely crate train him. I got some ideas from here and they are working for me. I read in a book that they like to have like their own little private place to go rest. I've heard a lot of people suggest an X pen with the crate in there during the day. You'd also leave their food and water there.

I was nervous at the beginning too. I don't know if I was lucky, but Holly sleeps all night in her crate. During the day, she is with us or in the kitchen (which is penned off with gates. She goes to her pad all the time now. But it took a lot of jumping up and down and celebration when she went. She goes to the bathroom right before bed and then as soon as she wakes up. I think if you should crate him at first and then use your judgement and see if he'll do okay sleeping with you.

Let me know how it goes. I'm not an expert as I just got my baby too. This is my experience. Hope it helps at least a little.
