Both of my yorkies have docked tails. I guess I just thought that they were supposed to be docked. Forgive my ignorance. I was going to get my puppies tails docked, but I think I will now ask the future owner(s) their preference. I suppose it doesn't really matter if they're docked or not, but personally I think it looks better (sorry!). I do think though that it is a tad cruel. I remember when my parents had cocker spaniel puppies many moons ago, I went with them while they got the dew claws and tails docked. I distinctly remember hearing the puppies crying while it was being done. I mean, they just snip them off, no numbing them beforehand or anything! I figured if I went to get my puppies done after they're born, I would have to leave the room to where I couldn't hear them since it simply breaks my heart to hear a puppy in pain. |
In the US it's part of the standard. It does give a better balance.
