You're right. The word bitch has acquired a negative connotation because of our misuse of it to insult people. But check the dictionary guys it means what it means and like this person said (I think I heard this in the movie A Knight's Tale, too) By any other name a rose is still a rose. Anyone is entitled to call their pets as they please, no one will rename your pet, but just as a mare, a doe, a sow, or a dam, bitch is what female dog's are by proper terms.
I do have a question though, I have never seen a female in heat as everyone I know that has a bitch has had them spayed. Do they make a mess? Like a human menstruation? How do you know they are in heat? I had never thought about that until yesterday that I say sanitary napkins for dogs.
