I'm a little ... shocked.. why didn't your friend go or you go... yesterday to the kid's house.. Or why can't she go today.. like NOW.. I Really think that is the answer here. Or let the authorities check it out.. When we lost a Yorkie here in my town..the police were MORE than helpful.
