I am hoping that his cough will get better....my yorkie, Max, is 3 years old....he has tracheal collapse from time to time.....he coughs, hacks and has trouble breathing for a few minutes at a time.....the vet said the surgery is difficult and very very expensive....I have given him some antihistamine from the vet and it has helped....also a steroid shot is in order if he has a prolonged attack.....Yorkies tiny knees are vulnerable so it is not unusual for a yorkie of Bear's age to have this problem......I personally would not subject him to surgery at this age......I would just treat the symptons.....try to give him the best supportive care as long as possible.....then make the most difficult of all decisions at that time. Good luck to you as you care for your aging little guy.....we all love them so much and it is hard to see them have problems.
