They are never to old to train or teach new things. It is near impossible to know how he has been treated before he came to you, which could be effecting his behavior. Males will mark, so that is normal and dropping his ears and head could be a number of things and most likely punitive treatment from his past home. Just be patient and give him lots of love and praise when he does what you want. Love and patience is the best motivator. Yorkies want nothing more than to love and please you and of course be with you every second. I am sure he will be just fine, just give him some time.
