I never let mine outside unless I'm with them. I kept them in the expen attached to the wire crate for a couple of months with wee-wee pad down and took them outside every hour. They never had run of the house till they were totally house trained. They go to the door when they want out, but when we can't take them, they stay in the kitchen breakfast area with a wee-wee pad down just in case they need it, which they haven't for a year now. This is for their protection.
