you also have to consider the stucture. my kirby is 5.9lbs and is almost twice the size of muffy who is 8lbs. kirby is longer in the legs and lenght. also, kiby had a date with a girl who was 8lbs and she was smaller than muffie. she was very compact. i could have sworn this little girl was 4lbs.
i think if you are looking at weight, it can be very deceiving compared to the stucture of the body.
if you want a small dog, you need to go by sturcture, not weight
