There is more to it than just the consideration of being "standard". Are you familiar with his pedigree? Do you know if he is free of genetic defects? Have him tested, if you haven't already, for bile acids, eyes checked, ears checked, tests for STDs, heart, thyroid, etc...Just a few things to consider.
