 Weight by Age Query
We have a 4 1/2 old female yorkie, Miss Nyla, and our Mother purchased a male, Peanut, from the same whelping. Nyla is now 3 1/4 pounds and her ears are just beginning to stand. Peanut, however, is a whopping 5 pounds, nearly 2/3rds the size of his mother and father, and his ears have been up for a month and a half now. He doesn't appear fat... just large, and Nyla is also well proportioned for her size and is quite healthy.
They have been fed the exact same brands of food, with the variation that Peanut generally has food available to him throughout the day, and Nyla is fed on a schedule.
Is this difference in growth normal? Is our Nyla a runt, or could it be a genetic anomaly of one or the other?
Nyla is a great eater, always licks her bowl clean, and is extremely energetic.
Someone suggested we should increase her meal size until she no longer tries to lick the bowl clean, which we did... once. She ate nearly 50% more than her normal portion before we cut her off (she was still licking). She was a bit listless, and sure enough, within minutes she threw up part of her dinner.
Any comments would be appreciated.
