When Ralphie had crystals in his urine a few months back, I never saw them but his urine was blood stained. That was my only indication that something was wrong with his bladder and it turned out he had not only crystals but calcium oxalate stones and he needed surgery to remove it all. He's 5 yrs old and he's fine now.

I do remember his urinating on the floor and on the rug when he got excited but absolutely no glittery effect was there. I don't think you can see crystals. I'd still ask the vet.
