Very sad. We sometimes get pets for my children. My daughter has fish, and my son has 3 tree frogs and a snake. When these were bought; I took them under the full expectation and acceptance that these pets are part of our household. I would never give a child a pet that I wasn't willing to take care of myself. (Which is one reason why Jacob hasn't gotten most of the pets he's wanted.)
Now these pets are small and in terramiums or aquariums; I wouldn't even consider getting them something like a dog or cat without considering them mine also.
