Ok everyone is talking about the right now aspect of it but these dogs are a life and they have to be nurtured and cared for.
1. I would consider getting a play mate for such a pet that had to be home all day by him or her self. My yorkie is hardly ever left alone as im a stay at home mom of one and one on the way so I go out maybe once a week were the whole family leaves and my dogs are actually alone. And my yorkie has a buddy my pom Oliver.
2. These dogs can live for years and years. you need to make sure this isnt somethign thats gonna lose its fun after a while and then get neglected. This could very well be a long commitment that you and g/f are making. and as dogs get older they need even more vet care etc.
Im with most people i love pets and i would never tell you or anyone not to get a dog im a firm beleiver that every one should have a pet weather a dog or a fish dogs are just more fun . And im like your g/f i to had to talk my hubby into my yorkie and im not gonna lie he does end up taking care of her and my otehr do plenty of times. he just shelled out 66 dollars for grooming just today. he wasnt so into the little dog thing until i talked him into it but youd be surprised how well that little girl loves the heck out of him more then me i thnk sometimes so unfair she sleeps on his side of the bed and would much rather sit in his lap then mine but thats why i got my boy. so just keep in mind your g/fs will most likely become your dog too.
