It is so important to keep your dogs nails cut. If they grow too long it can affect the way they walk which can lead to knee, leg and/or back problems.

If the dog allows you to cut them without a lot of drama then stand them on the table, lift a back leg cradle it gently and clip the tip of the nail. On a white colored nail you can see the quick - on black nails you'll notice the end has a whitish coloring and you will clip this area. Move to the other paws and reassuring the dog with slow movements and soft touch.

If the dog isn't as keen to having their nails done I will put them in the bath, allow the water to soften the nail and while they are busy drinking or I'll put a squeek toy in the water to entertain them I then clip their nails. Most of the time I get the back ones done before they realize I did anything. Also having the hair wet allows you to see the nail much better.
