Most of us are used to seeing our babies full grown - as they are now. Think back to when your baby was tiny. Carter was 2.1# when I got him at 24 weeks; Cooper was 1.1# at 10 weeks. Any loss of hydration to a lil' pup like that can be devastating!
If an owner is going to spend hundreds of dollars purchasing a pup that he/she expects to be a part of their family for 10-15 years, the cost of a vet visit should not be a consideration. Also . . . he/she should find a vet that they can be comfortable with and trust. Just as humans go to doctors even though we never expect to get sick, dogs are the same and need the care of someone that has learned and been tested in the proper care of dogs.
If you think a young pup has an illness - vomitting, bloody or watery stools, etc. -- seek a professional for treatment and diagnosis.
