We have a townhouse so there isn't a covered porch or anything. I taught Loki to go in the rain by carrying him to the middle of the lawn. If I let him out by himself or set him on the sidewalk he would just run right back in the house. By taking him out to the middle he had to walk 5 feet on the grass to get back in the house anyway, so I guess he figured he might as well pee while he was out there. Every time he tried to come back without peeing I took him right back to the middle of the lawn. Yes, I got wet, but he figured it out. On stormy days I still have to give him a little encouragement, but he'll run out there fast and do his thing. I also spent some time (on a nice day) teaching him it was OK to pee in the mulch next to the door, so he didn't have to go all the way out to the lawn. |
