I would suggest for you to keep them apart starting now.....the females usually won't accept the male until around the 9 day of heat but some people don't even notice when their dog started the heat cycle so that can be a problem . Also you can look for signs , when the female is ready she will lift her tail and allowed the male to mount her but you do not want to get to that point.
