We also have a Mastiff (140-150lbs) and she is awesome with our small dogs. She is very gentle. She was raised with our two toy poodles, so she knows how to act around them.
I am not a big fan of Pit Bulls, (I was attacked by one when I was a kid, and a neighbor had to pry the dog off of me) but I don't think it is fair to lump the entire breed under "vicious". But-It sounds like your Hubby doesn't want you to get a dog-and that is why he said he wants a Pit.
