This is just my opinion - so please feel free to ignore it. I wouldn't use any flea medicine on a puppy. I'd give him a bath in Dawn dishwashing soap (try to find the regular, not the ultra - but ultra is OK, if that is all you can find). That will kill the fleas. If you don't have fleas in your house or yard, then he won't get any more and there won't be any need for the strong flea medicine. Of course, if he is likely to pick up more fleas, then the medicine would be necessary.
