If you are going thru southern New Mexico go see Carlsbad Caverns. We went last summer and it was awesome. Also Ft. Davis in western Texas and the conservatory are really interesting. If you go northern New Mexico, go thru the Red River and Angel Fire area...my favorite place ever. Also Palo Duro Canyon outside Amarillo. The hill country around Austin and Fredricksburg is beautiful with wildflowers in the spring.
