Definately!! Smoothe your way in and take over girlfriend!! If she wasnt upset about you cleaning her up, then my guess is she could care less about her. Bake her cookies, help her plant some flowers this spring, buy some little $1 squishy bouncy balls for her son...schmoose baby schmoose her right into your palm and snatch that little furbaby right from her grubby paws.
