My husband visited China in January of this year on a business trip. He was suprised by many of the things he saw in regard to pets. He saw very few dogs and those he did see were with wealthier people and they tended to have just one pet. The Chinese don't spend the money to routinely vaccinate their animals for things like rabies and that is why in some providences they had a manidatory killing of pet dogs due to an outbreak of rabies. He also learned that they use dogs for some food, and in products we in the US don't use them for like clothing and leather items. The population of humans in China is so dense that pets are not the high priority that they are here. I hope this is not offensive to Chinese Americans here, these are just things my husband saw first hand. |
