I had the same experience baby-sitting my friend's Chihuahua and I did the same thing. The "guest" got the run of the house in the morning and Riley had it in the afternoon, because as you mentioned, it IS Jamie's house. I also don't think it's cruel to have him in the kitchen as long as he has food, water, toys, etc.
