Let go of the guilt of not being there when she was put to sleep. When I brought my 17 year old Yorkie in I stayed and held him after. I am now facing the same thing with his 17 year old sister and I will go the vets office but when it comes to the time she is put to sleep I will leave. Having done it once I realized it is very quick and they do not realize what is going on. My dogs know I love them from the 17 years they have spent with us. My biggest question is how do you know when you should. My baby can not see, cannot hear, due to shoulder problems cannot lift her head to look up (she is always looking down at the floor), her left leg gives out on her all the time and when she falls if she lands on her side - she cannot get up, she will only eat every 3 -4 days, she does not want to sit with anyone (not social at all anymore except sometimes with me at night). I could go on with other symptoms as well but I'm sure you get the point. So each day I struggle with the question.
