Do you only have one? When I was 7 yrs old my parents brought home a SaintBernard puppy. Barney grew up to be my mom's '"lap dog". He only stayed with us 2 years, my mom and 2 sisters were allergic to him.

My sister has a Doberman, if you're watching tv or on the computer or in bed she won't jump up on you. She very softly & slowly works her way up to be next to you or on your lap.

My friend B has a very large American Bulldog. She has never had a dog of her own and never allowed her husband's dog on the furniture. She ended up buying a loveseat so that her AB could sit with her and watch tv. She also has a new bed buddy.

We have 3 Yorkies. They sleep with us, sit on the sofa with us, one is laying on the computer table while I'm typing right now. I think they would sit on my lap in the bathroom if I would let them in.
