Most of us are like that,(want our furbabies with us) but some people don't want their dogs with them on the furniture. You started a problem if you don't want him with you on the furniture. You need to be firm, say no and don't ever let him lay with you. Eventually he will get it. But if you pick him up sometimes and not other times, all you are doing is confusing him.
