I have a boy and I agree- I only put VERY masculine bows

My boyfriend said no way in the beginning but he loves Ralfie's hair the longer it grows, and he knows to keep it out of his eyes I need to use something! Actually, I very rarely use a bow tho. Normally I use I rubber band (the little dental kind they sell in the grocery store) or a miniature barrette. Somehow I justify this to myself as more masculine LOL.
Seriously though, if we're going to apply our society's gender biases to yorkies, the poor males might as well just give up now. As jlyn pointed out, if they are going to be kept standard to their breed, their hair will be long and they will have a top knot. Male or female. If people have a problem with that and feel the need to use their dog to "man up", they should get a pit bull. IMO, a real man shouldn't feel threatened by a small dog's accessory.
