The partition that I use is 2 SHOE BOXES on their side, and I have it covered up with a fleece blanket. We borrowed ours, so I think when I buy mine, I will get a smaller size, because I am not sure my 3 pound yorkie is going to get a whole lot bigger (maybe 4 and possibly 5 lbs, but I doubt bigger than that), but sometimes my guy goes above the shoe boxes.......there is about a 3 in. air space, and he likes to get up there sometime if he is sleeping and it's too bright
