One week is not enough time to teach him anything. It tsakes time, lots of time and even more patience.

Some take longer than others. When I trained mine to pads. I put the pads where they wanted to go. Then gradually eliminated pads and moved them closer together till we were finally down to one.

Keep him confined to small areas, put him in the crate when you can't be watching him, and when he sleeps. When he gets up take him to the pad immediately. You can put one in an under the bed storage box to help define the boundries.
