I got him in October just as the weaher was changing. He was litter trained by the breeder and I just couldn't do it. He is by far the smallest dog I've ever owned but all have been outside trained. i took him out every hour for a few muinutes and eventually he went. Lots of praise and treats. I crated him at night or whenever I had to leave the house and set the alarm in the middle of the night for the first few months to take him out. I use the word"potty' constantly so he associated it with eliminating. When the weather got bad, I was surprised that he never shivered. In fact, every time the door opens, he's out there! He has learned to go within 1-3 minutes after I say "potty" Even though I shovel for him, he loves the snow and never shivers outside. He does run to the heat register to dry off when he comes in. Its funny to watch his hair blow up as he dries. I'm lazy so putting on coats evey hour was too much. I went out coatless too, since I figured if he could handle it so could I. We have both survived
