I have a DC-07 Animal and yes, it makes a horrible noise when you get the edge of a rug caught. But I think it's supposed to. It lets you know you better pull your rug out in case your not paying attention.
Just turn it off then back on and the noise is gone. I love mine and wouldn't trade it.
