You want to have plenty of chew toys around. When Missy goes for your hand, substitute an appropriate item to chew on. When she bites hard enough to hurt, yelp or say "no", immediately break eye contact, stand if you are sitting, and turn your back on her and ignore her for about 15 - 30 seconds. After that, all is forgiven.
She will soon learn that biting hard enough to hurt means that she loses what she wants most: your attention. It also teaches her "bite inhibition" - what amount of contact between teeth and skin is too much. That's an important lesson for puppies. |
