Ashley, try to make the crate a good place to be for your pup. When you are home, leave the door to the crate open and when pup isn't looking, drop special treats into the crate for him to find later. Let him think "This crate is awesome. Good stuff just magically appears in this place".

When you have to leave him there for longer periods, give him a filled Kong to help pass the time. I usually freeze mine so that they last even longer. Be sure he has lots of toys, too.

I would have special treats that are only for the crate and I would reserve the Kong for then as well.

Be sure that you NEVER go to pup when he is whining or yipping in the crate. You don't want him to learn that he gets your attention by acting that way.
