I don't know about you but I would think those tiny spikes would hurt
If I want mine to get off of some thing I point and say off. If they are needing to lay down I point and say down. so if he gets on the couch and you want him off tell him off and place him on the floor give praise and he will get it soon enough you'll say off and he'll just get off.
