I let mom nurse them as long as she wants. When she starts letting them know its over I separate them. My litters routinely nurse until 8 weeks, especially the small puppies. Its not uncommon for a mother to selectively chose one puppy to nurse longer either. It seems to be a natural instinct. I have a very small female, that just stopped nursing. She is 9 weeks old. Of course she wasnt nursing like she was, but a couple times a day. |
