Do yall think he tried to show me he was mad by peeing on the bed? |
This subject comes up often on the Bichon List. When my Lacy Bichon was young, if I went out on the porch to talk to someone and didn't take her with me, she would poop right in the middle of the living room. Then when I came back in, she would be standing beside it, wagging her tail, and looking right at me, watching my reaction. Lacy was 100% housetrained and knew exactly where she should go potty. I've heard many stories like these. It does appear they understand doing something we don't like to us if we've done something they don't like to them. Is it spite? Don't know. Maybe they just pee or poop when they get aggravated. We do attribute human emotions to our dogs and they are still dogs, but my two sure act a lot like humans on occasion. They do understand love and fun and mischief and happiness and sadness - maybe they understand spite. The pee or poop seems too well placed to be accidental. I've heard stories like this about many different breeds, too, so I'm sure Yorkies do it, whether it's spite or not!
