Hypersalivation Hello all! I haven't been on in quite a while, but I'm very worried and thought to ask of your advice.
Spice started hypersalivating 2 days ago (3:00pm when I get home), unknown cause. I checked the room where she stays and there was nothing in there that she could have gotten into. I checked over and over again! I brought her to an emergency clinic at 11:30pm, since she hadn't stopped. Took x-rays and no obstruction in GI tract. She is acting completely normal. They gave her reglin (anti-nasuea) every 8 hours and Pepcid 1xday. Later yesterday evening (7pm) she had stopped the salivation completely and was back to normal. Thought of cause was eating a noxious spider, lady bug, stink bug, etc. But never really new.
Now, I woke up at about 2:30am and she started again!!! By 4:30am she was hypersalivating like she was in the beginning. I'm now very very worried, even though she is acting completely normal. Eating, drinking, urinating and deficating. I just don't understand. She has had liver shunt sx almost 1 year ago, but her surgeon doesn't believe that would be the cause. Articles also say that hypersalivation is a syptom for shunts in cats only, but even at that, hers has been fixed. Anyway, now I'm thinking it wasn't a bug. Why would she stop and now start up again???
I'm just lost with this. Unfortunately I have to go to work this AM, but will return by 10:30am. She will also be going to the vet again today, for maybe some bloodwork. But again, she's her normal self. Running around right now playing with toys and tugging at my shirt while I type this!!
If anyone has had this experience or has any ideas of what this could be, please let me know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again, from Spices' worried mom!
