I found if I followed that schedule, I'd be one step ahead of her little thimble sized bladder! LOL. Anyway, when I'd take her out, I'd say, "outside", and when she'd go, I'd praise her, and give her a treat. There was one time she did just as you and the others are saying, she came inside after being out for 15 minutes, squatted and peed on the floor. I've learned I have to remind her what she's out there for, so I let her sniff for a while, then say my word to her to let her know what's she's supposed to be out there for. Sometimes it's almost comical, because she'll literally get this look on her face like, "oh, yea, I [I]was[B] supposed to do that, wasn't I!" They're like kids, they can get too busy playing and sniffing all the stuff outside, they get distracted from their original reason for being out there, the signal to 'go' is overridden by all the other things outside that are more interesting. Then when you bring them back in, there's no more distractions, the body's signal is not being ignored now, and there ya go! Or I should say, there they go. Now before I bring her in, I always say, "outside' to make sure she didn't forget. I've also progressed with her now where when she starts wanting to go from smell to smell, I tell her NO, and 'outside' and she gets the message and takes care of biz. |
