I HAVE done testing and fully vetted and had my female before an AKC judge at the show last month in GA and confirmed that she was indeed standard and "gasp" show quality. Didi I expect that? NO. Am I flabergasted? OH YES. As long as my male conforms to the standard. Someone will get some AWESOME puppies. But ALL breeders are in it for the money unless they give the pups away free. I care about my babies and have done the appropriate research and also have a wonderful mentor-BUT-all for the money (and for another female of course)

Let's just be realistic here. Some of us do it responsible, in home, and take ALL the steps and back our tiny program. BUT the difference is some use their dogs like crikets, and sell their babies, then dump them when their breeding days are through. The difference is the personable love and human contact and attention we show. There are NO reputable breeders within 1 hour of me and even though I haven't produced a litter yet, my name and number has flown all over my little town. I have people from Colubia, SC calling me willing to meet my $1200 prices becasue of the hearsay about my 2 little standard yorkies. My vet recommends me, my groomer recommends me, my dentist recommends me to anyone asking about a yorkie. They know what I am doing and the standards I am following, the hours of research, and the health of my dogs. I would have never imagined word of mouth being so powerful. When you put in the work, good things will come.

To the OP: Make it worth your while and do the right thing. Test, vet, research, find a mentor, when these seasoned breeders speak-be quite and take notes-they know from which they speak.
Like I said here....This is such a big subject - but I'd hate for someone here, that just had babies... or is going to have babies... to think I don't agree with what they're doing - if you are RESPONSIBLE and do it out of love - then I can understand it....I just don't agree with over breeding and selling for profit without really doing your homework and striving to improve your line.

I didn't say anything about GOOD breeders making money - of course they should - I talked about those breeders that just breed any female and see Dollar Signs. Sounds like you are a good breeder to me !
