My little guy got Kennel Cough last September after having been boarded for a week and he was treated with antibiotics. The actual virus cleared up, BUT, the cough lingered for weeks and weeks. We did X-rays and his lungs were clear, but he still had this cough and his little chest sounded wheezy. It was especially bad at night or after he was startled by something. Many sleepness nights for mom and baby. Finding no other reason for the cough, his vet sent me to a respiratory specialist who treated it with the doggy version of hydrocodone (vicodin). It still took two visits to the specilist, but the cough gradually subsided with this drug. I ran up several hundreds of dollars in vet and medication bills on that one. It was November before he was all better.
