| Newbie here... Very new to this so please bear with me. I bought my very first yorkie 2 weeks ago, he will be ten weeks tomorrow and he weighs 2lb 1oz. His name is Barnaby-Blue but I call him Barney for short. I already own a Chihuahua x Bichon called Tiare-Mimosa, she's Tia for short and has just turned five. I'm hoping they will be the best of friends. Up until yesterday Tia hated him and he annoyed the life out of her, but then the worm turned and Barney is now learning new boundaries and hopefully some manners. Play can be a little rough so I'm supervising and separating when necessary. House training is still a bit hit and miss but it's early days and he gets to the puppy pads about 50% of the time. He has slept through the night from day one and basically hes a very good, lovable little boy, he's certainly won my heart. Last edited by peppersoo; 01-30-2017 at 09:23 AM. |

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby boy. I would confine him to a small area until he is fully pad trained. I have had several puppies with older ones lol, yes puppies will torment the older ones because puppy wants to play. Tia will set him in his place when he gets to rough, yorkies are a very high energy breed. Good that you are supervising closely and separating when needed. Barnaby will soon learn his boundaries, Tia will see to that, and YES, Tia and Barnaby will soon be BFF. Enjoy that wild lil boy lol, they grow so fast.

| He's got odd ears Thank you for the welcome. I've no idea how all this works but I'm sure I'll find my way around eventually. Oh Tia is certainly teaching Barney some valuable lessons, the charging around is still a bit manic and i'm worried Tia will hurt him, he does squeal a bit sometimes. But she stops and looks at me, like oooops sorry! Just a quick question for those of you who have had yorkie pups. Barney's ears were both standing but now one has gone down, he looks cute but will it go up or the other one drop? He's 10 weeks and it's been down about 5 days. | Keep the hair on his ear tips as short as you can, it is also said while they are teething sometimes their ears will go down. I would trim his ears and keep an eye on him, sometimes they have to be taped. Life to Barnaby is so new and exciting, he will be zooming around the house for quite some time, as I have written, yorkies are a "high energy" breed. They need lots of exercise to burn off all that energy. Just keep an eye on Tia, older dogs get nervous around these zooming lil guys.

| Thank you matese, they are both zooming around one following the other but it's fun to watch. I don't think Tia is nervous now, she was terrified of him to start with, so I gave her places to escape and lots of mummy time while he slept. Thanks for the tip on ears, I'll see how it goes. |

| Newbie here Our first yorkie, Cinders, who lived to a ripe old age of 17 always had her ears down because they were not taped. Our second little yorkie who is 18 months has her ears up and the breeder told me they do need taping up to start with. We didn't get Mika until she was 12 weeks old and the breeder had removed the tape just prior to us taking her. So you may want to consider taping his for a few days. Mika zooms around the house like crazy, I used to say she had the puppy zoomies. She's given up chasing our older Shih Tzu but she really enjoys chasing one of the cats. It's a real game, she is so fast just zipping in and out, dodging furniture with the cat trying to keep up. It's a lot of fun to watch. If she thinks the cat may catch her (which she rarely does) she stops and turns her bum to the cat as she has learned that is the safest place to get a whack from the cat. Enjoy your little one, they are a lot of fun. |

| Definitely keep the ears trimmed like Matese said. I didn't do so well with Monroe when she was a pup because I thought I liked the looked of hair flowing from her ears... her ears still droop sometimes when she's not feeling well or is tired. Lesson learned! I use a small trimmer on their ears; it took a couple times for them to be okay with the sound but it's a breeze now. It's also great for trimming their "sanitary areas" & feet :-) Congrats on your new baby! Yorkies are something truly special!!! |
