Oh, that's too bad her owners weren't located. I pray for their sakes that they can. Thank you from a doglover for doing what you can to help reunite the family & caring for her until and if you do. I pray someone's heart is not breaking in two right now because she escaped or was taken, then ran away or something. Just keep up your good work and if they can't be located, maybe this little one can find a home with you. It's so good to know she's still not out in the streets and rain and cold! You sound like such a good person. :)

Normally I would agree with you but my instincts and heart don't belive thatshe was being well cared for by her owners. I don't know what her home was like so I can only go by her condition. Her owners still have 3 days to come forward, but I have a feeling they won't. The vet for the sanctuary is doing a full work up on her today and they all ready told me she is estimated to be between 9-11years old. I just want to do what is best for her.

I'm glad you have decided to foster her. Poor girl deserves a home where she is loved.

If she was disheveled and matted, any Yorkie can look like that after being out in the elements after a while. If she had bad teeth, so did my Jilly, even though she had regular brushings & dental cleanings with removal of teeth as needed. I brushed her teeth at least 5 days weekly and usually daily and she had regular vet checks but sometimes she still got tooth decay - her vets said from her tiny mouth and just because some Yorkies do get caries despite even intensive dental care. She was born a runt, had a form of malabsorption syndrome and didn't use her nutrition well; plus she had intense GI problems, allowing her to only eat that crummy Science Diet for Sensitive Stomachs and nothing else we ever tried her on - even the best of the best foods, worked. She ALWAYS got running, bloody diarrhea on all other food. She had the best of vet and home care but still wasn't the healthiest of dogs. She had LP in one knee but not serious enoug for surgery per her vet and as she aged, her back rounded up but x-rays & testing showed she didn't really need surgery just reduced jumping, certain activities. That's not to say your senior Yorkie find wasn't maltreated but sometimes even the most devoted Yorkie owner doesn't have a dog that is perfectly healthy.

So hoping for a happy ending to this story. Do you have her yet?

I hear what your saying, but I couldn't sleep well the past two nights worrying if I had done the right thing. I have to trust my instincts. My heart is saying if I had lost a yorkie that age I would be calling all the shelters looking for her everyday. Not to mention flyers and adds. I am just going to foster her for now, but I will keep her if I can. If I am wrong then the owners only need to come forward and show that they have cared for her. Vet references are easily checked. I feel better about this now.

I must admit I have been following this thread and really hoping she ended up with you and your husband and of course Tinkerbell:D I totally understand trusting your instincts in reference to her being cared for. While Georgie has had his health issues I truly believe anyone that looks at my sweet boy even minus 8 teeth will see how much he is loved and cared for. It's almost like you can read their eyes. I am so glad she will be with your family:D

I hear what you are saying but tragic things do happen to families. Perhaps the dog got out as the owner was being taken out on a stretcher, is in the hospital or one-parent family & child is very seriously ill - things do happen to keep good people from being able to do the things they normally would. I do hope if the owner can't be found you can keep your little find. You sound like a woman in love! She sure is sweet looking and she is a lucky little girl to have been seen by your dh.

Your post make me smile. I have two yorkies that are the most precious babies in the world - Lola and Harley. I have fostered in the past and was asked recently to "transport" a little one from "animal control" of some sort to a vet where a rescue would pick him up. His front leg was mangled and he was filthy dirty...his eyes were so dirty that they were almost stuck together. Anyway, I dropped him at the vet with tears in my eyes - I hated the way he looked at me the whole drive there! For two days this baby haunted me...I finally called the rescue and told them I would take the dog and pay for all of his medcal care, etc. His leg could not be saved after seeing several different vets, and he had to have some teeth removed and bathed several times before I could even see his skin through all of the dirt and mats. He is now safe...he will never be on the streets again. He will always have a warm bed to sleep in, clean water to drink and plenty of food to eat. He will never be abused or alone again. I needed a third pup like I needed a hole in the head, but he needed me. The funny thing is, now, I can't imagine my house without him. He is so happy - happy to be safe, happy to be alive! He is precious and loves his "brother and sister". I can honestly tell you I have never regretted making the decision to go back and get him. Lolasmom1211, thank you so much for your post. It is such a heart wrenching thing to see an animal that is suffering from neglect or abuse. Thank you for saving that poor little boy. I hope I can make my foster girly feel loved and safe. This all happened so fast, but I feel like this is right and it is exactly what I need to do. I have her now. We have decided to call her Isabella. She has lots more energy tonight after several days of good food..... She still has an odor despite being bathed by myself on Sunday afternoon and the shelter yesterday. The vet thinks she is basically healthy, but the results of her blood work have not come back yet. She is likely deaf or near deaf, but seems to see fine despite having some cloudiness to her eyes. I will foster her for a few weeks then if everything is working out I will adopt her.

Tinkerbell is doing very well with her and just keeps trying to get her to play with her.... I will start a new thread and keep everyone updated once she settles in.:)

Our pom is 12 1/2 yrs old and has developed an odor,she has always smelled fine until a few weeks ago. I took her to the vet today and is now being treated for a bacterial skin infection. She has a few teeth missing in front and has been drooling lately. I bathed her Tuesday and when I brused her afterwards,the hair on her chin just came out in clumps. She is being treated with round 2 of antibiotics and it is beginning to help.
Is it possible that she has a slight staff infection?

Thanks for sharing that information with me. I am going to find out if they checked her for that and if not ask that she be checked.

Originally I was grooming her and found three spots on her that,at first,looked like ringworm. Major freak out moment,I was leaving town the next morning,she sleeps with my daughter,there are 4 other dogs in the house and the vet left at noon. AAAAAA! I took her in for the tech to take a look and blacklite her,not ringworm,staph infection. I noticed when I bathed her this time that the smell didnt come back except on her head and chin. This ment that the infection was still there ,but slowly going away. She is taking Ceflexin. Good luck!

Just read through this thread. I guess it is hard to know what to do in such a situation. I agree though that if an owner lost a beloved dog they would be looking every where. I can't imagine how bad I would feel if I lost my previous dog at that age. It's like losing your child! I'm glad she is with you. I hope you find the source of the smell. If it is the mouth area it should be fairly easy to detect. She may have been eating some bad stuff during her experience. I hope all goes well for both of you. It would seem as though the shelter would have been notified if someone lost such a dog in your area.

It sadden me this morning to hear about the lost Yorkie but I am so happy now to hear the owners have been located. Hope they take better care of the dog.
