| I am going to call the shelter tomorrow morning and see what we need to do to have them released. I cannot imagine a shelter still wanting the $200 adoption fee if they are going to be putting them down on Tuesday. I would think that they would be happy that someone is stepping up to take them. I'm sure it will have to a rescue not just a person but I do volunteer with a rescue and I have cross post to their yahoo group. I have one lady from the rescue willing to take one or two of the females. I myself will foster one, but it will have to be the smaller more submissive of the bunch as Bella is a royal b.t.h with strange adult dogs. She is alpha. Does wonderful with puppies just not with other adult dogs female or male. I think this is able to be done and I'm sure if I can't get others from the group to foster that someone here will or at least once they are in Jersey a Yorkie rescue will take the guys girls left which should be no more then three at most. I'm feeling sorry for the Havanese too and I'm trying to find fosters for them as well. Let's see what I'm told Monday. I'm sure if they know we are going to take them that they will work with us for the week for pick up and with the adoption fee. I mean really a $200 fee for a dog they are going to be putting down. Makes no sense that they would still want that. Elaine |

| I looked up info on the shelter and ran across an amazing article from the Humane Society about the woman who runs it. I thought even if we could get the dogs into a local kennel or vet to put a stay on the execution that would buy us more time to make transpo arrangements, which right now seem to be the biggest kink. Anyway, she seems to really care about the animals so maybe we can work something out with her. Article and continued link below: Osceola, Missouri Animal Control Officer a Hero for Dogs April 26, 2008 The HSUS Animal Control Officer Latichia Duffy sees a dog off to a better life. On April 17, The Humane Society of the United States deployed personnel to assist with the transport of 47 dogs from an overcrowded shelter in Osceola, Mo. to Main Line Animal Rescue in Chester Springs, Pa. The dogs were rescued from a hoarding situation and Missouri puppy mills. With the dogs safely on the road to their new adoptive homes, The HSUS spoke with Osceola's only full-time animal control officer, Latichia Duffy, who works on a shoestring budget with no county animal control in place to offer assistance. by Pepper Ballard Osceola, Mo. Animal Control Officer Latichia Duffy is no stranger to overwhelming situations: For the past seven years, the veteran animal welfare worker has used minimal funds to operate a tiny shelter in a location surrounded by nine puppy mills. Although she's accustomed to adopting out dogs nearly as quickly as the county mills drop them off to her, Duffy only has room for a dozen at a time. So when she learned recently that a St. Clair County couple was hoarding nearly 30 dogs, she realized she needed help. "My goal in the beginning was to save as many as I could. I never dreamed we would save them all," Duffy said. After a flurry of phone calls to area shelters, Duffy got connected with The Humane Society of the United States' Animal Rescue team. On Friday, the team and Duffy loaded nearly 50 dogs—Corgis and mixed breeds from the hoarders and other dogs from the mills and shelters—onto The HSUS' 75-foot, custom-built animal transport vehicle. The HSUS then took the dogs to Main Line, a Philadelphia shelter that was featured along with The HSUS on a national talk show that recently highlighted the horrors of puppy mills. The HSUS "The stories that we get back (after a dog has been adopted out) are so heartwarming." "She's the one who got this ball rolling. She wasn't too proud to call out for help," said The HSUS' Senior Director of Emergency Services Scotlund Haisley. "She's struggling, with nothing." Since Duffy is a city animal control officer, she has no jurisdiction over the nine county puppy mills that drop off their unwanted dogs to her. St. Clair County, which is the second largest county in the state, has no animal shelter or animal control workers to come to her aid. Page Not Found | The Humane Society of the United States |

| I am going to give her a call in the morning. Meanwhile I have emailed Yorkie rescues in the area and pasted the info. asking if maybe they would have room to pull them and foster until perm. homes could be found. I also let them know that I will take one of the females and foster. Elaine |

| Thanks Jen. I will let everyone know as soon as I get some info. Then we can all go from there and try to get these little ones out of danger. All of this just breaks my heart. Not just the Yorkies but they also have a beautiful Chocolate Lab who is an adult and I'm sure also has his days limited there. Going by the different pure breds (Schnauzers young, Yorkies, Havanese) and by the location I really think it's a dumping ground for the millers which is also a shame for the shelter as I'm sure they do not want to put these dogs down but probably have no choice. Anyway, let's just see what the morning brings. I have posted to rescues but thus far have only gotten one reply and it said that they already got this info. and that since it's been hitting the net that things will probably work out, but no offer of any help. It's sad because the rescues are flooded to and they don't get funding from the county or state - it's all on donations. I will def. foster one of the girls so even if I can get one out and someone can help get that one to me I will work with her, have her vetted and groomed and find her a loving home. I'll get back to everyone in the morning. Elaine |

| Hi guys. I posted this morning on it's own thread "Update on Yorkies in Missouri." I will post it here too to be sure it's seen. Below is the update Thanks everyone for caring enough to help. ElaineGood Morning guys. I just spoke with Laticha Duffy (Animal Control Officer) in the Missouri shelter where the six Yorkies are located. Apparantly, there is a bit of a misunderstanding. The six Yorkies ARE NOT IN DANGER, BUT with that said THERE ARE DOGS IN DANGER. There are close to a dozen at the SPRINGFIELD shelter which is strictly a Kill Shelter. If I remember correctly she said the shelter does not adopt out and only hands them over to licensed rescues. A handful of rescues. If ANYONE WORKS WITH A LICENSED RESCUE and can help any of these dogs out PLEASE CONTACT Laticha Duffy at the number listed on the link below. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AND SEE IF ANY OF THE RESCUES YOU GUYS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH WOULD BE WILLING TO TAKE ANY OF THESE DOGS IN. I see that some have already been tagged for rescue but there ARE MANY THAT NEED RESCUE. Thanks. Elaine Untitled Document |

| Do you have a link to the website? I have a friend who lives in the country almost an hr's drive from Springfield - although, last I knew they had several dogs. Her hubby works in Springfield maybe they could help or could put the word out. Also, is the idea of rescuing the yorkies or doing a yorkie train dead in the water right now?
