I just read all the posts in this thread again.. I want to just say you people are doing a great job, I cried when I saw the video of her, it was pretty touching.. I also want to say the first breeder I met.. and a breeder for Durrer lines.. had one of these little babies when I first met her.. she kept him and I am not sure how many years her lived.. but he flipped on those back legs and got around amazingly well.. it was heartbreaking to see him.. but he did not know and was in no pain and was pampered by this breeder that breeds for betty anne... I know she will be ok.. some one is going to have such a special girl.. to love and spoil.. and take with them where ever they go..and be so proud of her.. I keep praying for her and keep watching this thread for updates..god bless you all...so much love in your posts.. anne |
Thank you all so much! The Baby is doing great. The Dogter last week pretty much confirmed everything that we already knew as far as treatment, etc. for her little legs. She did fine when Molly went to her fantastic forever home ... probably due, in part, to the fact that another little rescue came in about the same time. Yippeee ... someone new to run and play with. Oddly enough, little Cody has an injury to one of his rear legs that left it totally stiff. The tale we were told was that when the pups were born, his Mom jumped into the whelping box and landed on him, injuring his little leg. One would assume that a good breeder would have taken him and had him vet checked? Nothing was done! He also saw the dogter last week and the xrays showed that when the Mom jumped on him, his little leg was actually broken. Since that happened 7-8 months ago, his little bone knit back together on its' own and simply left the leg stiff and now it's too late to correct it. It doesn't slow him down one bit! :) You can imagine what a pair those two were! It's a little bittersweet ... Cody has already found a wonderful forever home!! So Baby is back to terrorizing the resident Yorkies at FM's house! :p Anne ... Thank you! Did the little one that you knew ever have something like a wheelchair? We're thinking that later on after she has finished growing, that a little wheelchair might make her more comfortable. She is comfortable with her handicap now, but I wonder, as she grows and gains more weight, if she would ever be in pain? Betty'sMom ... There may have been help via braces, etc. when she was born and still had soft little bones. Evidently, noone bothered to even try and help her. From all the testing we have had done so far, she is perfect with the exception of her little legs. She is with fantastic Foster Mom near Denver. :) Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for Baby! |
Gracies story for Bettyanne and others.. 4 Attachment(s) Here are some pictures I wanted to share to help those who do not understand the importance of getting these babies born imperfect looked after right away by a good vet.. One who if they have never seen this before as in my case but was willing to have him and his wife do what they could so we could get our gracie walking.. her legs would hug into each other at the back when she tried to stand up.. and would fall down.. by 4 weeks old we were working on what we could do.. I was first given some leg exercises to do for her..to see if we could straighten them out and make that muscle stronger..I was told by the first vet if the exercises did not look promising in one week we would have to put her down.. NOT.. I said.. and called a great emergency vet out of town at his home.. he said bring her in first thing in the morning.. I did.. He had never seen legs like this before and asked me if I could leave her for an hour and he and his wife also a vet would see what they could come up with.. so this is what they made.. it came off lots and we had to put it back on her and as she grew we had to make it a little looser.. when the brace came off we took her outside in the yard to exercise and play.. she could not slip on the grace and we had to make sure she did not slip and also began training her to go outside at the same time.. Today she is still with us, and thriving and does have a roach like back out of it for the way she has to walk, we did not care.. she is healthy and walks and runs.. and that is the most important thing.. we kept her for after tube feeding her night and day every two hours for two weeks to keep her alive.. we could not let her go.. As a two year old, she has a certain whine when she is tired.. she needs me to pick her up like a baby and we have to touch her legs and rub her belly.. we feel this is something that stayed deep in her mind.. and at first we could not understand what she wanted as it was months before she began doing that.. so at least once a day usually at night.. she gets this treatment and it has to be done by me.. so for those who are not sure if these wee little darlings do not remember.. I would have to I know they do... If you have any questions please ask.. I have done this for bettyanne.. in the hopes we make people aware of what can be done if done early... anne Attachment 215089 gracie's legs hugging toward each other Attachment 215094 I had to give gracie leg exercises every chance I could do it which was often Attachment 215095 this is the homemade brace my vet and his wife made Attachment 215096 another picture of gracie in her brace to get the idea of what was done, wrapped right to her feet |

Anne ... Thank you! Did the little one that you knew ever have something like a wheelchair? We're thinking that later on after she has finished growing, that a little wheelchair might make her more comfortable. She is comfortable with her handicap now, but I wonder, as she grows and gains more weight, if she would ever be in pain? Gracie was looked after well from the beginning.. and with exercise and the brace she is ok today.. There is however a couple of girls on yt that do have the wheelchairs for their dogs.. I can look and find them for you BettyAnne if you would like me to.. or maybe there is some on reading this thread that knows.. I know but of course when I need to think who.. I cannot.. this may work and there are people out there that will give this girl the best that life can offer... anne |

As for this little girl you have in rescue.. it does make me mad that a breeder could let one go like this without doing anything.. I may be small.. but I am dedicated. I made this commitment.. and that is just the way it is.. And oh I wish I were closer to a good breeder to even learn more.. anne |
Wow just read the whole thread and let me tell you Anne your Gracie is so adorable, and wow you have done such a wonderful thing for her. Bettyanne your little girl is adorable as well and I sure hope she gets everything and a wonderful family like anne's. |

I have been following this thread since the first post. She is sweet as can be thats for sure. BUT I was hoping that maybe her forever home would turn out with the mommy she has grown to love allready. It would be so good for her..Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that all works out !!!! |
I have just found this thread today and stunned and amazed at the same time, stunned that any breeder did nothing to help this little one and amazed that she found her way to your care and that she is doing so well. Gracie is such a little stunner too, just goes to show what a helping hand a the beginning can do! Glad that Baby is staying with her Foster mum she is loved there and allways will be....:D |
