I was asked by PM..... 2 Attachment(s) ...to post pics of the carriers with a dog inside. After a little trial and error, this is what we came up with. Ben is @ 5 pounds and has to raise up to look out like this. When he stood down normally or sat, he does not show up at all as the mesh is a bit concealing. |
Going Once, Twice.....sold?? If you haven't sold it yet, I'll buy the bronze one. :) Thanks! |
Great -- Bronze carrier SOLD to Murphysmom! I'll PM with payment details. |
Oops...forgot to ask important question!! My other question: (I should have asked all these in the beginning but wasn't thinking)....do you know if these are approved for airline travel? And also, do they have enough structural support where you think the top won't collapse on my dog's head?? Thanks for the great deal!! Much appreciated! |
These are more fashion totes for out and about town. But most airlines do accept soft sided carriers for in-cabin use. The dimensions of these carriers will be within the requirements of any of the airlines I checked. Whether or not I would use them on a flight, would depend on the size of your dog. Personally, if I was taking mine on a plane, I would want a larger carrier (something like a Celltei or a Petflys). But I would not want to use either of those for about town carriers, as they are too bulky -- different carriers for different purposes. That is how I wound up with so many! :) I am keeping a large carrier that will fit both of mine and meet what I would want for airline travel if I took them both. But I am also keeping a smaller carrier that fits just one that I can easily take on errands and such. I would have kept one of these, but thought since they were new, they would sell better than my older one. If I was traveling with my male, these carriers would fit the requirements (as listed by 2 airlines below). My girl is larger and much taller. I do not think she could comfortably stand up in them when they are closed. They do stand on their own (see pics earlier in thread) and I do not see the top coming down on the dog, especially when they are snapped up. Closed position makes them more rigid and sturdy feeling. American -- "The maximum size for cabin pet carriers is 23" long x 13" wide x 9" high. Per the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mandate regarding carry-on baggage allowance, a pet kennel counts as a passenger's one carry-on bag. Only one pet kennel per ticketed passenger may be accepted for travel in the cabin, as pets must go under the seat in front of you. The kennel may contain two (2) dogs or cats but they must be the same species, ages between 8-weeks and 6-months, and weigh less than 20 lbs. Animals must also be able to stand up, turn around and lay down in a natural position in the kennel. Soft-sided pet carriers are accepted as long as they are constructed of water-repellent, padded nylon with mesh ventilation on two or more sides. All animals must be a minimum eight (8) weeks old for dogs and cats." US Airways -- "They must pose no hazard to the safety of any customer and the container must pose no hazard to the safety or comfort of the animal. The animal must remain in the container under the seat in front of the customer at all times during the flight. The maximum size for a cabin kennel is 21" x 16" x 8" for hard-sided and 21" x 16" x 10" for soft-sided. The cabin kennel must be large enough for the pet to stand, sit and lie down when the container is closed." |
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THAT INFO!! You went above and beyond the call of duty to answer me so thoroughly! I am VERY excited I got such a GREAT deal, Debra! Thank you! What you made makes total sense. Question: How big are both your pups and which carrier did you find that fits them both? Also, can you take 2 pets as carry on?? I was thinking I read it was only 1 allowed per person. I will be flying soon and am trying to figure out the logistics of whether I will take my dogs or not. Thanks again! |
I bought a Longaberger carrier from another YT member. It is plenty big enough for both of mine but still within carry-on luggage size requirements. Some airlines allow two pets if they are the same species and the total weight is not over 20 pounds. They have to be in the same carrier though, as only 1 pet carrier is allowed per person. Some restrict the 2 pets to puppies not adult dogs. I think you just have to find the airline you are using and get their specifc rules. Ben is almost 5 pounds now, but he is short and compact. Sadie is probably about 6 pounds but she is tall and skinny as can be. She looks about twice the size of Ben, until they are wet, then you see how skinny she is. We let her have as much to eat as she wants and still she stays thin. I should be so lucky! :) |
Ok, last question, Debra...promise! When the airline HAS allowed it, do you pay for one pet or two? My dogs would be under 20 lbs in total weight, as well. They'd be about 14 lbs exactly. Anyways, just curious what's been your experience w/ the fees... Thanks again! |
